Fr. Brendan McGrath

Fr. Brendan McGrath was born in the shadow of St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal in 1979. Coming to Ontario with his family at a young age, he has been ministering in the Church since the age of 8 when he first began to serve Mass.  Experiencing his call to the priesthood in high school, he began his seminary studies at St. Peter’s Seminary in London following the completion of his undergraduate degree.  Fr. McGrath served as Diocesan Director of Pastoral Care for the Extraordinary Form from September 1st, 2018, to September 1st, 2021. With the changes brought about by the papal Motu Proprio Traditionis Custodes, he has served since that time as Coordinator for the Celebration of the Liturgy according to the Missal of 1962, with the primary focus of serving as the Chaplain to the Waterloo Region Latin Mass Community.

Curriculum Vitae

Associate Pastor at St. Mary and the Missions, Owen Sound
(June – September 2009)
Assigned as “summer help” to assist with the influx of vacationers, I was tasked primarily with celebrating Sunday Masses in the eight churches that comprise this parish.  During the week, I assisted with the pastoral care of the sick in hospitals and nursing homes.

Associate Pastor at St. Joseph’s, Guelph
(2009- 2011)
Assisting with all areas of parish life, my principal duties included:  overseeing the RCIA team, training altar servers, offering counselling and spiritual direction, and ministry to young adults.

Associate Pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes, Hamilton
(2011 – 2013)
Similar in scope to my previous post, my duties in this parish centred primarily on:  running the RCIA program, offering counselling and spiritual direction, and teaching catechetical classes.

Pastor at St. Mary of the Purification, Mount Forest
(2013 – 2015)
Responsible for all areas of parish life, both administrative and pastoral, I worked to increase parish/school collaboration, bring renewed zeal to liturgical worship, and implement new programs of catechetical formation.

Administrator at St. Teresa’s, Kitchener
(2015 – 2018)
Originally assigned with the mandate to administer the parish in advance of clustering, when that project was delayed, I focussed on expanding both the liturgical schedule and adult faith formation opportunities.
